Oil and gas transportation services, means the transportation of equipment and supplies used in the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources.
Oilfield transportation operations use specialized vehicles fitted with auxiliary equipment designed for the following:
Oil and gas transportation services - swamper, - supervisor, - bed truck operator, - multi-wheel truck operator, - bulk haul truck operator and - winch tractor operator, are available for certification under the Apprenticeship and Industry Act:
Note: Truck operators must hold the appropriate operators licenses as required under the Traffic Safety Act.
Oilfield transportation operations are conducted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, under all weather conditions.
Truck Operators must hold the appropriate operator's licenses as required under the Traffic Saftey Act.
A certificate is not required to work as an oil and gas transportation services in Alberta. This is a designated occupation and participation is voluntary.
Job skills and competencies and standards of performance for well test supervisors have been defined and approved under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act.
An individual completes an Occupational Certificate - Credentials Application form. The application must include a certified true copy of their petroleum competency program certificate issued by Enform.
Individuals possessing a valid Alberta Journeyman Certificate, an Alberta Occupational Certificate, a document indicating that the individual holds a certificate that is recognized as equivalent to an Alberta trade or occupational certificate, or a certificate that is recognized as equivalent to an Alberta trade or occupational certificate are eligible to receive a Blue Seal business credential after completing the necessary requirements.
An individual acquires the competencies through on-the-job training. Formal training is not provided. Work experience hours/months do not apply and are not required for certification.
Competencies are assessed by demonstration on the job according to standards set by the Apprenticeship and Industry training Board.
Advanced Education and Technology has entered into an agreement with the Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada (PHRCC) to recognize the competency assessment process of their petroleum competency program.
This competency assessment process is monitored and audited by Apprenticeship and Industry Training to assure that standards are met as approved by the Apprenticeship and Industry training Board.

There is no entrance requirement for oil and gas transportation services.
The Occupational Committee encourages individuals to obtain their high school diploma to meet employer’s requirements for employment and future advancement.
Most employers prefer to hire high school graduates or people who already have related training or experience.
