History:
The Building Trades of Alberta is comprised of various international union affiliates and represents them as a common voice on a variety of issues. The ABTC and their affiliated Unions have played a leading role and have demonstrated a strong commitment to apprenticeship, training and upgrading of skills. Second only to the Provincial Government, the Building Trades of Alberta is the largest private sector workforce skill developer / trainer in the Province. The learning infrastructure maintained by the affiliate Unions is in the range of $30 million with an annual budget in excess of $8 million to deliver training in the construction industry.
Construction Labour Relations - An Alberta Association is a private industry employers' association representing contractor members in the Alberta unionized construction industry. Contractor members range from those that have constructed some of the largest industrial projects in the world, to family-run businesses constructing medium to small industrial and commercial projects. CLR's primary mandate is to represent unionized contractors in labour relations matters, including the negotiation of the terms and conditions of employment with our partner unions. In addition to those activities, CLR also supports a variety of other collaborative initiatives addressing such issues as work place safety, training, construction performance, and labour supply and demand forecasting. The CLR is a strong supporter and promoter of apprenticeship within the construction trades.
The employers represented by the CLR and their union partners represented by the Building Trades of Alberta are pleased to work together to recognize the importance of an Alberta Apprenticeship as an important form of post secondary education through initiatives such as our joint funding of this scholarship.
