History:

The Building Trades of Alberta co-ordinates and harmonizes the activities, functions and interests of the Affiliated International Unions in the Building and Construction Industry. The Building Trades of Alberta represents 13 affiliated international unions and 32,000 construction workers who work on industrial and commercial construction projects, and maintenance on refineries, gas plants and mills.

We are committed to safety, stability, quality and productivity. The Building Trades of Alberta is working to a goal of zero accidents and incidents, and to become the world's leader in construction safety, providing the most stable work environment in any construction jurisdiction. We are dedicated to fostering, developing and advancing the best apprenticeship training.

KBR (formerly Brown & Root Ltd.) was incorporated in 1951 to perform heavy industrial engineering, construction, and fabrication work in Canada. In the 50 years since, the Company has completed over $2 billion worth of engineering/construction projects, working in every province and in the far north. The bulk of our work has been in the Province of Alberta for the oil, gas, petrochemical, power, mining, and pulp & paper industries.

KBR employs in excess of 100 permanent staff in its Edmonton home office, and a further 100 tradesmen in the Edmonton pipe fabrication operation. During peaks in construction, over 2,000 direct hire tradesmen were employed on construction contracts.

KBR is proud to be associated with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training and to provide this scholarship intended to help a person get started in the trade as a Welder.

The Boilermaker Agency acts on behalf of signatory Boilermaker Contractor Association employers in facilitation of apprenticeship matters for their boilermaker and welding apprentices employed in the field in Alberta. The Agency goal is to assist our apprentices to get through their work experience and technical training without any complications, and to become competent journey persons who will be an asset to their employers.
