History:

The Ledcor Group of Companies has been built on a history of strategic decision making since its inception in 1947. Our national presence, our volume of on-going work, purchasing ability and our diversification has all been part of our competitive advantage. Ledcor has many assets - our employees are shareholders in the company, giving them a special interest in all projects. Their dedication and experience along with Ledcor's proven management systems and construction techniques have been the key to completing projects on time and on budget, exceeding our customers' expectations.

Our early roots began with William F. Lede founding Leduc Construction. The historic first project - preparing the access road and well site for Imperial Oil's famous discovery at Leduc, Alberta - began as a legacy for many successful and important projects throughout the last seven decades. Williams' mark on Ledcor is evident today in providing the leadership in quality workmanship and personalized service.

Earthmoving services were gradually expanded into heavy civil construction with highways, dams, airstrips, infrastructure, gravel crushing, mass excavations and rock blasting contracts. With the discovery of numerous oil and gas fields in Alberta, the oil and gas industry required the means to transport the product. Ledcor recognized this need and established a pipeline division to meet the demand. Ledcor expanded geographically and diversified into the building and industrial sectors in the early 1980's. In the 1990's, significant projects included building Canada's first diamond mine, high-rise towers, big box retail, airport terminals, suburban offices, industrial and distribution centers.

Now in the 2000's, our divisions include Building, Civil, Highways, Industrial, Pipeline and Technical Services. Our offices are located throughout North America and Hawaii. We take pride in the fact that we have the flexibility to take on small to very large projects, move with our clients to new geographic areas and have expanded our services to include broader and more integrated levels and types of construction services.

Ledcor's safety training is and continues to be extensive and intensive - safety is the top priority for our company. Through many programs, extensive on-site training and safety orientation, Ledcor takes safety on the job site very seriously. Ledcor is also the first construction organization to have achieved two top Canadian and U.S. national safety awards in the same year.

Noted for being proactive and innovative in the construction industry, Ledcor saw the need to encourage more people to enter the apprenticeship trades in the face of skilled labour shortages and an impending retirement boom. The "On-site Accelerated Apprenticeship Program" pilot was developed by a Ledcor employee to decrease the time line to integrate new skilled trades people into the workforce and was successfully launched in Fort McMurray, Alberta in 2005.

The Ledcor Group of Companies has grown to become one of the largest, privately held firms, ranking in the top five of the largest construction companies in Canada.
