Parts Technician (Old Program) |
The Parts Technician trade merged with the Warehousing occupation on May 1, 2008. The Parts Technician trade now has two branches - Parts Technician and Materials Technician.
This page provides information for ONLY those apprentices who are continuing their training under the old Parts Technician program. Only apprentices who have completed or been granted credit for first period technical training by June 30, 2008 are allowed to continue in the old Parts Technician program.
Select Alternate Year - 2005 - 2006 - 2007 - 2008 - 2009
There have been no changes to this trade in the year of 2009.
Current apprentices in the old Parts Technician program will have until June 30, 2009 to complete second period technical training and then until June 30, 2010 to complete third period technical training. After each of these respective dates, any apprentices that have not completed technical training requirements will be automatically enrolled as apprentices in the new Parts Technician program and will be required to complete the training requirements of that program.
It is IMPORTANT that continuing apprentices complete their technical training within the timelines described above.
- select an educational institution that offers training for Parts Technician (Old Program) apprentices, and a time to attend training (see Technical Training Locations and Schedule)
- determine requirements for enrolling at the selected institution, and forward completed enrollment form to the selected institution (see Enrollment Instructions)
Apprentices may attempt the Interprovincial Exam in the final period of their apprenticeship training and, if successful, be granted a Red Seal. (see Exam Counselling Sheets)
When apprentices attend technical training, they are required to pay the applicable tuition fee and purchase course supplies.
Grants, scholarships and other financial assistance may be available. For more information see Financial Assistance or contact an Apprenticeship and Industry Training Office.
After May 1, 2008 all apprentices in the Parts Technician trade will be required to meet the requirements for Qualification and Equivalency examinations as described in the new Parts Technician program or in the new Materials Technician branch of the Parts Technician trade.
The Interprovincial Examination for Parts Technician will be the same examination for both the old and the new Parts Technician programs.
See information regarding the Parts Technician branch or the Materials Technician branch of the new Parts Technician trade.
