Alberta trade and occupational certificates and certificates recognized in Alberta are listed below.  However, not every recognized certificate is posted.  If you are unable to determine whether or not a certificate is recognized, contact your local Apprenticeship and Industry Training office.

Employers who have questions about the authenticity of a certificate should contact the province that issued the certificate. For additional information, see Tips for Alberta Employers.

Holders of an Alberta 2nd class electrician certificate:
  • are entitled to work as an electrician on circuits of not more than 300 volts with an ampacity of not more than 200 amperes, or without restriction, while under the supervision of the holder of an Electrician trade certificate
  • have no work restriction/limitation when supervised by a holder of an Alberta Journeyman Electrician Certificate
  • must become apprentices for at least 12 months in order to obtain an Alberta Journeyman Certificate in the Electrician trade
  • who seek a replacement certificate will be issued an Electrician Qualification Certificate without Red Seal and with limitations/restrictions (see above) identified on it (records will continue to show the 2nd class as the original).
  • applying for the Qualification program do not need to provide proof of work experience.
